We also get a dvd with a making of and live performances. To imagine this is the same artist that recorded SMiLE is a shame as SMiLE is such an amazing album and this is just o.k. The booklet has all the lyrics and we get a list of whom plays on the album. That Lucky Old Sun (CD/DVD) being Brian Wilson's 2008 release and is ok release but compared to SMiLE it is not as good. 3/5. I agree with Allmusic that this is a three ouf of five star effort. Many lyrics seem to be happy to talk about nothing special, like "Good Kind of Love" which is a mediocre song. The speeches in between are downright trite, boring and say nothing worthwhile.
I know he is Brian Wilson, but this work does not live up to Brian's talent level of old. When is somebody going to say that the Emperor has no clothes on. I'm sorry to go against the current, but this is not a good cd. It mixes spoken word with music and feels like eating marshmallows with grape nuts.
Will not buy CD's any morePeg Received CD but it was blank. It was a Christmas present so I have no paperwork left anymor.
Be thankful that here is one 60's icon who is still with us. Like most of Brian Wilson's songs, this album gets better with every listen.
Now that I know the landmarks and the places Brian sings about in Lucky Old Sun he is now singing about my home. When I was much younger, living in Chicago I'd listen to the Beach Boys while it was sub-zero outside. Well, twenty years went by but I was finally able to make it to the Promised Land (as Chuck Berry would call it).
You all need to get this album, even if you don't live in Southern California. Thank you Brian for this outstanding work and for igniting my dream. To hear the whole Lucky Old Sun in performance is just the greatest. Yes it was snowing outside.
And about 3 years ago I started listening to the Beach Boys again and realized how great they are. I was able to see Brian and the band at the Hollywood Bowl and was so moved by the performance I traveled all the way back to Chicago for his performance there this past November. I'd hear the positive message contained in their songs and although only 13 years old I promised myself that one day too I'd take advantage of the Southern California lifestyle. And believe me, no one can bring emotion to a song like Brian Wilson.
And my God I can't believe how great it is. And for the past 25 years I have never been happier. So when Lucky Old Sun came out I bought it.
